MÁV Co

MÁV Co. is Hungary’s national railway company and employs some 20,000 people. Since 1993, the business has been operating as a state-owned shareholder group. Its services cover the operation of 7,600 kilometres of railway infrastructure as well as passenger transport, traction and railway-vehicle maintenance and repair.

MÁV Co.’s entire headquarters were transferred to a new building in 2009. The move to new premises was carried out in two main phases, during which the company’s services could not be interrupted. By the second day of the move, all of the employees’ telephone sets had to work with the same parameters as usual. In short, MÁV Co. required continuous operation of the existing functionality on the whole network.

Having conducted a careful cost analysis, MÁV decided to implement a new communications system. After upgrading the remaining switches, they were able to re-use that capacity, meaning no new hardware was necessary. The largest exchange in the MAV network is the Budapest exchange with more than 10,500 ports. Headquarters is part of this exchange. Firstly, the Budapest exchange was upgraded from BC 11 to an Aastra MX-ONE® Telephony Switch SW version. Secondly, the group switch was expanded and finally, the exchange was implemented. New telephone sets were delivered after the SW upgrade. The move was seamless and resulted in a homogeneous, up-to-date network.
