ASB Alten- und Pflegeheime Mainz

ASB Alten- und Pflegeheime Mainz is a member of the Workers’ Samaritan Federation (Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund), one of the best-known organisations in the country offering social services. Based in the town of Mainz, the institution employs around 100 staff. 101 elderly people are cared for in its various facilities.

The nursing home had the aim of making important processes – voice communication, triggering of alerts and documenting of care activities – possible for staff over DECT telephones. Up to 40 per cent of staff time can be saved in documentation tasks using the innovative activity-recording system. The old people’s and nursing home wanted a firm to help them that was not only knowledgeable about communication and alert/nurse-call systems, but also about voice recognition.

The all-in-one package includes the OpenCom 1000 communications server and OpenCare, an alarm server for handling nurse and emergency calls. All of the systems are equipped with interfaces to the “OPAS Sozial” documentation software, which enables voice communication to be included in documentation using the Aastra Voice Portal. Carers can now enter details about the services they have provided for residents as well as their patients’ vital levels via the screens of the DECT phones. The care reports they make orally can be recorded on the phone at the same time. Each resident can trigger the emergency-call system by pressing a button in their own room. This alerts staff throughout the premises by phone.

This solution was fully implemented for ASB Alten- und Pflegeheime Mainz in only six months. It is regarded as a model project and is being funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. Three other ASB facilities are currently under construction that are going to employ the system as well.
